FACTORY DIRECTED MODIFICATION

VN2000~L MC06-07 ENGlNE:_

FRAME : .

•.. _---

The reason for this notice:

On eligible units, the splines on the engine pulley and/or pulley shaft may be worn due to the type of assembly lubricant used during assembly. This can result in the engine pulley mounting nut not applying enough clamping force to properly hold the pulley in place and creating abnormal wear on the splines of the pulley and/or pulley shaft. The worn splines may cause abnormal noise and the vehicle may not accelerate smoothly. Our records indicate that you have bought one of these units.

What Kawasaki and your dealer will do:

Kawasaki has initiated a Factory Directed Modification campaign to repair all affected units. The repair will consist of 1) removing the engine pulley to inspect the pulley and shaft splines, replacing the pulley and/or shaft if they are worn, and 2) applying molybdenum grease to the pulley shaft threads and engine pulley mounting nut seating surface during installation and tightening the nut to the proper torque. This repair wilt be made by an authorized Kawasaki motorcycle dealer at no charge. Repair time will differ depending on the results of the inspection. The actual repair will take up to 4 hours, but rn~Y take longer due to scheduling at the dealership and the time neade.dto_obtain required parts. Please call your Kawasaki motorcycle dealer to schedule an appointment and take this letter with you at that time.

  • Every one should check their pulleys ..ALL YEARS

  • Get rid of Factory's they suck to begin with step up & to the 33 tooth & save your self a heartache

  • I have a 06, does the recall specifies the model? (Standard, Classic, LT?) I believe I'm going to send them my VIN and ask specifically.

  • Bare, did you just get this?

  • No back in 2006

  • I have Bare's front pulley. Issue solved :)

  • oh, ok. my dealer told me the early ones had this, but not my 06. i thought maybe they were fixing them all. i was going to check that out when i put your front pulley on here shortly.

  • I have an '06 Classic and when I entered my VIN it shows that there are no recalls.

  • There have been many reports of that problem and I have seen many myself every bike I work on (ALL YEARS) either there was n o MOLYBDENUM GREASE APPLIED or it was not Torqued to 130ft lb's and many cases both. In 2006 there was ENGINE PULLEY WEAR FACTORY DIRECT MODIFICATION (NOT A RECALL) stating this problem, have your dealer call KAWASAKI or you call CONSUMER SERVICES DEPARTMENT 949-460-5688, they will pay for the repair it was a assembly problem.
