Just out of interest what brand of engine oil is everyone using? Obviously 10w40, but I wondered if anyone has had better results with different oil? I'm just about to do a change, and I'm using ASDA bog standard 10w40, purely because it doesn't have additives in it, which can foul up motorcycle clutches.

  • Yawn

  • I use bike spec motul 10w40 semi.... it's the cheapest bike type I am find and it's only £20 inc filter so I change is every 6 months.

  • Motul oil and hiflo filter 25 posted on eBay

  • Seems a fairly contentious subject.

  • Whatever pal, your bike, do what the fuck you want with it. Dont ask for an opinion if you've already made your mind up.

  • I didn't ask for an opinion

  • Let me know how you get on, I've got a load of Halfords semi 10w40 and wondering wether to use that

  • Still, I have just checked the forums and people are using tesco oil lol. Nothing about it in the service manual. Maybe I'll get some bike specific oil.

  • Asked the poster you dim wit

  • Price has gone up since I last bought some then.

  • Get this all the time ben. I worked in an engineering firm and studied lubricant fundamentals. If people want to save a fiver its up to them, they think its all a conspiracy theory by the oil companies but dont know what the fuck there talking about. I regret responding to these posts because there is always one bloke ( Jack Daniel Jess) who, despite knowing sod all about oil, still wont be told.

  • Know sod all

  • Silkoline comp 4 nothing else if you love it treat it right .

  • Well thank you for your input Andrew.

  • Bet you never thought asking such a simple question could cause such a stir Ben!! In my opinion motorcycle specific oil every time! My local mechanic says it's better using cheaper motorcycle specific oil than expensive car oil

  • http://www.nightrider.com/bike tech/oiltest1.htm I've seen evidence to both sides of the debate, but I actively sought people's opinions, and I'm thankful that people took the time. I think I'm at a point where I know what I'm going to do, so thanks everyone.
