  • Headlight actually

  • Bingo! :-)

  • I took headlight out to replace because it was cracked. It worked fine. Put new one in, not working. Didn't notice these two wires till now

  • But this was hooked to headlights before

  • Does the horn work?

  • Ya. So does turn signals

  • What color are the wires?

  • White/ black stripe and black yellow stripe

  • Frank Lloyd , let me consult a wiring diagram.

  • Ok. 12v when key is on

  • The radiator fan has the same wires.

  • Check the wires are connected to the fan.

  • Fans connected. Fan has blue/white and black/yellow

  • This bloody wiring diagram is so small I have a headache squinting to try and read it :-p

  • What about the thermostat on the radiator?

  • Ya thermostat is hooked up too

  • does all lights work around the clocks?

  • On the gauge? Yes

  • The bigger kawasaki have 2 wires up there for accessories a black and yellow that is an earth and then a live can't remember the colour :p

  • Here's a dumb question does the bike have to be running for the light to be on?

  • no

  • Maybe it extra then

  • I have no power to the headlight with ignition on

  • I doubt it :-p

  • But power with ignition off?

  • Is the parking light connected?

  • Check that both your hi beam and low beam work.

  • Let me rephrase that. On the actual headlight wire I have no power at all. On the two wires we don't know what they are I have constant power. On and off

  • neither work

  • I don't think I have parking lights?

  • So everything else but the headlights work and you have a live and an earth wire that you dont know where it goes..., let me see if I can find a wiring diagram that I can actually see :-p

  • Exactly

  • Exactly

  • Well I figured out headlight. My headlight doesn't come on till I hit the ignition

  • My tank is getting painted so I can't actually start bike but if I try to start it headlight turns on after I let off starter

  • Any bike I have had I could always turn the lights on without having to start the bike.., this is a head scratcher all right :-/

  • Hang on.., it could be the fuel sensor wires to the tank?

  • If the tank is off then thats what they are.

  • I swore they were spares. I have a few bikes that has just extra wires sitting around like that.

  • It is, its the fuel level sensor wires, I ought to slap you with a naughty Ninja for that, you didnt tell me your tank was off

  • 06 250 has a fuel level sensor?

  • Kevin Murphy , all bikes have a fuel level sensor, well most any way.

  • Tells you how much fuel you have left.

  • I am 90% sure it was an option for 3rd gen. Neither my 98 or my 03 have one. Just those wires hooked to nothing.

  • Kevin Murphy , you will find that wiring looms are mass produced and some bikes will have a certain feature that others wont, the spare wires!.

  • Ok, thats what I am thinking his was. Pretty sure 3rd gen 250s didnt have that.

  • If you both go to the FILES section of the group you can download the service manual for your bikes.

  • now if I could just figure out what is wrong with my beater so I can ride again....

  • Once I know that Frank Lloyd is sorted out then we will get you sorted out Kevin.

  • I'm pretty sure my bike doesn't have fuel sensor wires though

  • Ya I'm good. I don't have a fuel sensor though. I think there just extra

  • Easy to check, just look under the tank and if you see 2 wires sticking out then you do, if not then we are back to square 1.

  • Frank Lloyd , according to this you do.

  • thats for an 08, different bike

  • Kevin Murphy , does your bike not have a fuel gauge?

  • My 1990 GPX600R did.

  • Ya I don't have a fuel gauge or even an idiot light

  • WTF? .., thats crazy :-p

  • neither my 98 or 03 250s do, 250s didnt change from 88 till 07

  • Ok then, looks like we are back to square one..., Frank Lloyd lets assume these two extra wires were for a fuel level sensor, if your bike is running fine and everything works then this may be the case, keep me informed.

  • Right Kevin Murphy .., whats your bike not doing?

  • the one with same wires as him works fine. My 98 has the issues. above a certain rpm it sounds like shit and I cant get above 50ish mph

  • there is the wire diagram for his, looks like they are classified as "accessory loads"

  • Kevin Murphy , its either being starved of fuel or is sucking air from somewhere, can you do a short video of it?

  • in a bit

  • Kevin Murphy Thanks for clarifying Franks wire issue, why the phuck didnt they put a fuel gauge onto the 250's?

  • Cause it's a platform from 88 lol

  • Kevin Murphy , one thing I always ask is has the bike had any work done recently?

  • Also things like when was the air filter last changed/cleaned?

  • its a beater that has rode ~1000 miles this winter. tbh I think I may just need to clean filter. the sound is what has me worried tho. taking vid in a few

  • Kevin Murphy , one thing you can do to eliminate the filter is to take the bike for a short run without it, preferably not on a dusty road.

  • I have 07 250 and I have the same wires. Took my tank off before and no sensor wires

  • Brandon Tan , yeah, seems to be extra wires ffs :-p
